...them
out. Most
of us are told to read a variety of books to become traders. I
was told the same thing by many well meaning people, and read nearly
100 books before I made a single trade. After all that work, do
you know what kind of return I got for all that book knowledge?
Nada! Absolutely nothing. In fact, I started with nearly $30,000
and with in 6 months I barely had $10,000 of it left. Eventually
my partner, Toni, told me that if I lost $1000 more that I would
have to stop trading. Enough was enough, I could not continue to
lose our savings like that. I would have to go back to a job I
hated and make a living "like everyone else". This ultimatum
gave me a new found determination to succeed. Shortly after she
issued it, I made a discovery that literally saved my trading career.
Read carefully. This is one of the most important things I have
ever learned.
There are many things you cannot learn in a book.
Take, for example, riding a bicycle. No matter how many books you
read on riding a bicycle, you will not be able to ride one until
you get on one and try it out. Now, with a lot of practice and perhaps
a broken arm, you could get the hang of riding a bicycle all by yourself.
However, it really does help to have your mother or father there
beside you showing you how it’s done, holding you up and encouraging
you as you practice.
My own trading dramatically improved when I found a mentor who was
willing to take me under her wing and show me what she had learned
in over 10 years on the floor of a major exchange and trading "upstairs".
At this point things started to turn around for me. I had found a
mentor and she showed me a method that works in any market.
Before long I was making a very comfortable living from the markets
and people started to come to me to learn how to trade.
